When should my toddler use a spoonAt some stage, usually between nine and fourteen months, your baby may show signs that she is interested in feeding herself with a spoon. This is usually before she actually has the co-ordination skills to do it. These skills may take several more months.Self-feeding is an important milestone in your babys development, but it is important not to rush things or to try to force your baby to feed herself before she is ready. Self FeedingMealtimes will be messy as your toddler tries her skill at using a spoon and has a go at drinking from a cup between 15 and 18 months. By three to four, there will be less to clear up as she manages a cup well and uses a spoon, fork and possibly even a knife. When is your baby ready to eat soloTo find out if your baby is ready to feed herself, you should ask yourselfCan she grasp a spoon firmly in her hand? Does she show interest in eating with a spoon? While your baby may find it more fun to play with food than eat it, try not to let her make mealtime into playtime. If she shows little interest in eating for more than a half hour, wipe her off and call it a meal. ![]()
