The truth about cancer triggers |
We have all heard at some point in time about how you could get cancer from doing something that we all do every day. For example, there was a huge amount of debate and there still is about the effects of using a mobile phone frequently. Well this along with some other commonly regarded cancer triggers have been found to be myths.
According to a new study conducted by the University of New South Wales graded certain activities commonly thought to cause cancer on a scaleĀ from proven and likely, to inferred, unknown or unlikely.
The study found smokers and smokers who have quit to be the most at risk, although the risk is reduced for people who quit smoking. Drinking alcohol was also a high risk factor, particularly for people who also smoke.
Drinking chlorinated water and using a mobile phone was far less likely to cause cancerĀ although the risks associated with the long-term use of mobile phones had not been fully established
The study also reported that there was little risk from drinking coffee, using deodorants, drinking fluoridated water and having breast implants or dental fillings.
The study also confirmed a number of well known cancer causing activities
