What do I need for labour?

You should have a bag packed for yourself and your baby from week 35 of your pregnancy. Labour could start at anytime from then, so you should be prepared.

We have listed some of the items that you should include for yourself and your baby.

Your Bag

  • Change of clothes/pyjamas for after the birth.
  • Toiletries, towels.
  • List of numbers for people to call when the baby is born.
  • Nursing bras and pads.
  • Car seat for bringing baby home (it is very important that you organise a lift home from the hospital with someone who has a car seat fitted to their car, or bring your own car seat into the hospital).
  • Going home outfit.

Your Babys Bag

  • Baby Blanket.
  • Lots of changes of clothes - vests, baby-grows, baby suits.
  • Nappies, cream, baby shampoo, cotton wool, towels.
  • Going home outfit, including hat.
  • Soother - if you want to use one.
